What to Expect at Pack 24
New to Cub Scouts? Here's what to know before your first meeting, outing, or event.
Before Your First Meeting
-
No uniform needed yet — just come as you are! We'll help you figure out what to buy once you've decided to join.
-
Meetings are drop-in friendly for first-timers — no registration required to check us out.
-
Bring your Scout's energy and a parent or adult partner; younger Cub Scouts (Lions and Tigers) need an adult with them at every meeting.
What a Regular Den Meeting Looks Like
-
Pack 24 meets the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, 6:00–7:00 PM, at the Family Life Center at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church (3713 Udall Street, San Diego, CA 92107).
-
The 3rd Tuesday is typically a Pack Meeting — all dens together, often with a theme, game, or ceremony.
-
The other two Tuesdays are Den Meetings — smaller groups organized by grade/rank, working on badge requirements together.
What to Bring
-
Water bottle
-
Comfortable clothes for activity (indoors and sometimes outdoors)
-
A copy of the rank handbook, once you have one (not required for your first visit)
Outings and Campouts
-
Pack 24 does weekend outings roughly once or twice a month — camping trips, fishing outings, service projects, and more. Check our Calendar page for what's coming up.
-
For overnight campouts, we'll share a packing list ahead of time so nobody forgets a sleeping bag or flashlight.
Uniforms
-
Uniforms are optional for the first few meetings while you decide if Scouting is a good fit.
-
Once you join, you'll need a Class A uniform (the official BSA shirt/cap) for pack meetings and events, plus a more casual Class B (pack or den t-shirt) for everyday den activities and outings.
-
Uniforms and handbooks can be purchased at the Scout Shop in Balboa Park or online.
